J. Spencer Fluhman is a professor of history at Brigham Young University (BYU). He is the editor-in-chief of the ''Mormon Studies Review''. He received his bachelor's degree from BYU and a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Fluhman has a Ph.D. in American religious history from the University of Wisconsin–Madison. His doctoral dissertation was on 19th-century anti-Mormon literature. He has held a fellowship at the Center for the Study of Religion and American Culture at IUPUI. Fluhman is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a missionary in the Washington D.C. South Mission, which covers the Virginia suburbs of Washington and also takes in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia.
